My verse chapbook, Cast Off, appeared with Edwin E. Smith Publishing in fall 2015. It has been nominated for the PEN Center USA, Independent Publisher (IPPY), and Oklahoma Book awards. “The Giving,” “Portrait in 2/4,” and “Praise” have been nominated for Pushcart Prize XLI: Best of the Small Presses.
In the spring 2016 issue of The Adirondack Review, Alex Guarco writes: “While reading Daniel Simon’s Cast Off, I began thinking about pin lines—the lines in poems or prose that bury into and stay with us long after we put a particular book down. . . . I think we all carry a pin or two, and Simon gives us reason to keep a few more.” Click here to read the full review.
And writing in Poetry International (April 2016), Hélène Cardona comments on Cast Off ‘s “rich language and bristling erudition,” noting that these “superbly crafted poems . . . take us on a remarkable, unexpected journey towards ecstasy.” “Sifting through geography, history, literature and memory,” she writes, “this book is a tribute to family love and the human capacity to persevere in a broken world and redefine ourselves.” Click here to read the full review.
